Create a personal AI assistant using NotebookLM

2025 has begun. In recent years, rather than focusing on blogging or updating social media, I have been dedicating myself to my work and absorbing new information. As a result, I had paused updates on this blog.

Additionally, my site was infected with a virus, and I had to delete everything and rebuild it from scratch. This lowered my motivation to update, which also contributed to the decrease in posting frequency.

By the way, I tried installing the WordPress mobile app, and it’s incredibly easy to use. With this, I should be able to update my blog without any stress.

NotebookLM as the first step in AI utilization

I launched this website over 10 years ago, and at the time, I used to update it daily. However, what I’m doing now is different from back then, and creating content for the website has become a lower priority. As a result, updates to the website had stopped.

I have my own company website and can also use blogging services, so at one point, I considered shutting this website down. However, with the emergence of generative AI, I reconsidered and decided to use it experimentally.

At this point, my AI usage is mostly limited to ChatGPT, but I feel that it’s time to start mastering it properly. This year, I plan to actively utilize generative AI.

As a starting point, I’ve decided to try using NotebookLM, a service provided by Google.

Write a blog for inputting information into NotebookLM

To briefly explain NotebookLM, it is a service provided by Google that integrates generative AI. It functions as a note-taking app that generates outputs based on the information input by the user.

For example, if you input a PDF of a research paper on a specific topic into NotebookLM and ask a question, it will generate answers based on the information from that paper. The UI is in a chat format, similar to ChatGPT, but its key feature is that it generates responses based on the specified input information.

Therefore, it can be used in a personalized way, reducing the chances of receiving vague or arbitrary responses. As input sources, it supports not only PDF files but also text files, slides, website URLs, and various other formats.

Of course, you can use your own website as input information. By accumulating data there and linking it with NotebookLM, you could create something like a personal assistant that provides responses closely aligned with your own thoughts.

Increase opportunities to engage with rapidly evolving technology

This field is evolving at a rapid pace, making it challenging to keep up. However, just as the internet and smartphones have become a natural part of daily life, I believe this technology will also become something we use without a second thought.

Even though the way each tool works often changes quickly due to new updates, I still believe it’s important to use them and get a feel for how they work. ChatGPT and NotebookLM are relatively easy to use, and as you use them, you might come up with even better ways to make use of them.

The term ‘AI native’ has also emerged, and in the future, AI will become even more deeply and widely integrated into our daily lives and business scenes.

As someone working in the IT industry, AI is a technology I can’t ignore, so this year, I intend to actively make use of it.
